Ten top hits from Williams Golf Design

12.15am 28th April 2005 - Course Development

This spring sees the opening of a number of projects designed by David Williams Golf Design and constructed during 2004.
The new course to be known as Godstone Golf Club, close to Junction 6 of the M25, opens for play this month. The damp weather experienced last summer greatly enhanced the maturity of the course with some tees ready for mowing only two months after seeding.
Seeding of the front nine of the new club/hotel course at PGA Golf de Catalunya, near Gerona in Spain (designed in association with Neil Coles), was undertaken in Autumn last year; the front nine holes open for play in May, with the back nine programmed to open in the autumn.
All 18 greens were reconstructed at Northwood Golf Club in Middlesex last autumn, and are due to re-open in May, as are the new bunkers on the Wood Course at Sandford Springs Golf Club on the Hampshire/Berkshire border, which were reconstructed to DWGD designs last autumn.
David Williams Golf Design is also extremely busy on the drawing board (and increasingly the computer screen!) having been commissioned to design six new 18 hole courses. Five of them are in the UK (two in East Anglia, one each in Kent and Derbyshire while in north Wales initial planning consent has been granted for a new 18 hole course on the dramatic Great Orme headland overlooking Llandudno. This follows two years of negotiations and the production of a detailed environmental impact assessment.
A further course in Spain, called Guadix Golf near Granada in Andalucia, offers magnificent views of the usually snow-capped Sierra Nevada range
The six projects are at varying stages through the design and planning processes, and construction of all is anticipated for summer 2006.
