Tate takes the reins at Stanedge

11.20am 15th March 2019 - Course Development

A new chapter in the history of Stanedge Golf Club in Derbyshire began last month, following its purchase by former Ladies European Tour professional Fame Tate.

Stanedge’s new owner, Fame Tate, has plenty of plans to introduce new players to the game

Tate, a former leading England amateur and Curtis Cup player, acquired the nine-hole moorland course, which is situated between Matlock and Chesterfield, just four weeks ago, and she is already looking to drive the club forward and open up opportunities for more people to play and get into golf.

Outlining her plans for the future of the club, Tate said: “Stanedge is a great nine-hole, par-69 course situated on the edge of the Peak District, with superb views and great turf to play golf on. We aim to make golf fun and accessible to both visitors and members alike. We will develop a very inclusive and open policy, allowing people to feel welcome, comfortable and relaxed while enjoying their experience either on the course, in the clubhouse, or learning to play the game with the help of our PGA professional staff.”

She added: “Since we acquired the club four weeks ago, we have had a great response to our various offers, with 50 new members signing up to join the club and various groups getting involved in our coaching and learn to play offers. We have several initiatives planned to celebrate the new approach, which include a free coaching day on Saturday March 30. We will also be running a new event – 6@6 for £6 – which will be a series of six-hole events played at 6pm on a Wednesday at a cost of £6.

The club is also hosting a family open day on April 21, where the winner of a prize draw will be awarded a year’s free golf membership.

Tate added: “We want o make Stanedge Golf Club a place where people feel welcome and relaxed, so they may enjoy their time with us. We are also keen to grow junior golf and introduce young players to the game. We will also be running regular coaching sessions for all abilities and in particular for those new to the game through our Get into Golf programme.
