Royal Dornoch Golf Club in Scotland has been recognised by the Ministry of Defence for the support it has given to members of the British Armed Forces.
Royal Dornoch Club Manager Neil Hampton was invited to an awards ceremony held in Perth, where he was presented with a Defence Employer Recognition Scheme Silver Award.
The event was hosted by Highland Reserves Forces’ and Cadets’ Association at The Black Watch Castle and Museum.
Following a welcome by Brigadier (Retd) Mark Dodson, Chief Executive of HRFCA, and a performance by the Pipes and Drums of The Black Watch Battalion ACF, certificates were presented to supportive businesses by Major General Bill Wright, General Officer Scotland, the Army’s senior representative in Scotland.
Among the other military representatives in attendance were Commander Gary Farmer RN from HMS Caledonia, Colonel Tony Philips and Major Heather Lawrie of 51st Infantry Brigade and HQ Scotland, and Group Captain Derek Johnston and Wing Commander Archie McCallum from the RAF.
The Defence Employer Recognition Scheme rewards and recognises UK employers for their support and commitment towards the defence of the nation – and the golf club had previously secured Bronze status.
Silver Award holders demonstrate support for defence, including actively communicating and upholding a positive stance to their employees via established HR policies and procedures.
It is also recognition for supporting reservists by showing flexibility to plan for and allow them to fulfil their annual training and mobilisation commitments.
Mr Hampton said: “It was an honour to receive this recognition on behalf of the golf club.
“Royal Dornoch has an association with the Armed Forces stretching back many years and our Terms of Employment take account of our commitment to such valued groups as the Highland Reserve Forces’ and Cadets’ Association.”
Major General Wright said: “The success of our Armed Forces in delivering defence capability is entirely dependent on our relationship with the society from which we come.
“Key to this relationship is the role played by employers, who not only support members of the volunteer reserve forces, but also the wider armed forces family including veterans, spouses and partners; as well as the adult volunteers who are so important to the viability and vitality of our service cadet organisations.”
