R&A adds qualifying spots for 2021 Open Championship

4.34pm 17th May 2021 - Course Development

The R&A has increased the number of places available at Final Qualifying for The 149th Open at Royal St George’s Golf Club in Kent.

A minimum of 12 places are now on offer through Final Qualifying and the leading three golfers in the events taking place at Hollinwell, Prince’s, St Annes Old Links and West Lancashire on June 29 will qualify for the championship being played from July 15-18.

Entries need to be submitted to The R&A by May 20 via TheOpen.com. All Regional and Final Qualifying events will be played behind closed doors due to health and safety measures minimising the risk of Covid-19.

A new exemption has also been added to allow a minimum of two golfers not already exempt to earn places in The 149th Open through the Aberdeen Standard Investments Scottish Open being played at The Renaissance Club from July 8-11. The leading non-exempt golfers will qualify to tee it up at the famous Kent links.

The full list of exemptions for The 149th Open at Royal St George’s is available via TheOpen.com.
