Puerto Rico announces Trump’s new luxury golf retreat

8.39am 25th August 2008 - Course Development

Terestella Gonzalez-Denton, executive director of The Puerto Rico Tourism Company (PRTC) and The Trump Organization has announced a deal to create one of the largest and most impressive developments in all of the Caribbean. Investing over $600 million in the island, the Trump International Golf Club Puerto Rico in Rio Grande will be an upscale and exceptional residential community nestled alongside the beautiful Atlantic Ocean.

Trump International Residences & Golf Club Puerto Rico will be envisioned in the ‘grand style’ of a traditional resort – opulent, private, and completely full-service. The 1,000 acre property will feature up to 500 exclusive residences, a beautiful coastline, a ten-acre beach club with countless activities for adults and children, tennis facilities, a world-class restaurant, indoor-outdoor bars, boutiques and pro-shop, a first rate spa, glorious pools, a fully-equipped business centre and a state of the art fitness centre.

The centre-piece of the development is PGA veteran Tom Kite designed 36-hole championship golf course which offers a challenging, one of a kind layout that takes players through the mountains, alongside the ocean, next to sparkling blue lakes, and under a forest of palm trees.

The course has already achieved recognition as the home to the PGA’s Puerto Rico Open; its inaugural stop was in March 2008 and will also be held from 3-9 March 2009. “I’m a passionate golfer and every detail will be important to me,” says Donald Trump.

“It will be among the finest destinations anywhere in the Caribbean,” says Donald Trump. Eric Trump will be personally hands-on with every step of the project’s creation. “The Trump Organization is very actively involved in this development on all levels. We are partners with a very substantial equity contribution and a keen interest in the highest quality being delivered to Puerto Rico.”

“Mr. Trump’s decision to open such an amazing high-profile property on our island is an honour,” said Ms. Gonzalez-Denton of PRTC. “The addition of such a prestigious name in the golf and real estate industries to Puerto Rico will allow us to continue to raise the bar on our tourism infrastructure and widen our ever expanding portfolio of luxury offerings.”
