Modry Las Golf Club has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Golf Inc 2010 Development of the Year Awards which celebrate new golf courses developed between January 2009 and August 2010. Already recognised as one of Europe ’s top 100 courses, the stunning Gary Player-designed course joined five other shortlisted projects from around the world.

The Development of the Year Awards recognise the very best international golf courses. To this end, the facilities shortlisted must distinguish themselves by achieving the developer’s mission through effective routing, course aesthetics and other project amenities. According to the chairman of Modry Las, the course’s inclusion in this year’s top developments is one to savour.

“Modry Las is a long-term project which has enjoyed a remarkable first year,” said Arthur Gromadzki. “To be included in the top 100 European courses, for instance, was fantastic. To be included in Golf Inc’s final selection for Development of the Year is remarkable. This honour is particularly important because applications are assessed on an international stage. This dimension certainly adds to the pride I have for everyone who has worked on the course, especially the efforts made by Gary Player.”

According to the judges, the vision of the project team and the immaculate site on which Modry Las was built warranted its inclusion in the top rankings of new courses. “The vision of the developing team for Modry Las was to build a great golf course on a very good site,” said Michelle Weyenberg, managing editor of Golf Inc. “On a reasonable budget, it was well achieved, therefore deserving to be honored as a finalist in Golf Inc’s 2010 Development of the Year contest.”

Set in the beautiful West Pomerania region of Poland , Modry Las overlooks two spring-fed lakes and is surrounded by oak, pine and birch forests. Throughout its 7,272 yards, the par-72 course weaves its way through gently undulating countryside that teams with flora and fauna. The remarkable surroundings encouraged Player to describe Modry Las as “a classy golf course carved in a beautiful, natural landscape. It’s just an incredible setting”.
