Pizá Golf unveils new course in Mexico

8.29am 30th June 2023 - Course Development

Golf course design firm Pizá Golf has unveiled a new 18-hole championship golf course that forms the centrepiece of a new residential and lifestyle development called Zitara Golf, which is located in Aquacalientes in central Mexico.

Zitara is a master-planned community laid out by Pizá Golf and developed by the Plusvalterra Group. It is designed to offer one place to live, work, relax and play golf. It is the first large-scale project in Aquacalientes, spanning 200 hectares, and features an integrated development that spans across residential, commercial, sports and cultural areas.

The par-71 golf course, which weaves its way through the entire Zitara – Ciudad Residencial community, measures 7,000 yards from the back tees, while the members tees are approximately 6,500 yards. The routing begins and ends at the Bernardo Pozas-designed clubhouse and reaches the farthest points of the property.

The golf course offers stunning views towards the Pichacho mountain range in central Mexico

With many holes offering stunning views of the Mount Picacho mountain range, the front nine boasts three challenging par-5s, while the back nine feature three intriguing par-3s, including an island green on hole 17. Golfers can also enjoy playing golf at night, as the last six holes are floodlit.

“We’re exceptionally proud of the golf course at Zitara. It will offer its members a world-class experience of beauty, with the emblematic views of Mt. Picacho, a challenge with the combinations of strategic, penal, and heroic holes with undulating fairways, raised fairway bunkers, and plenty of elevation changes,” said Agustin Pizá, President and founder of Pizá Golf.

“I designed Zitara for the members to discover something new or different each time they play the golf course through design nuances. I consider this approach an ensemble as each hole interrelates to each other.”

Other facilities at the club include a double-ended driving range, which also offers food and drinks on-site, and features music and firepits, for the ultimate gamified range experience.
