Peterstone Lakes’ Leap of Faith to Toro

A Cardiff golf club has become the first Toro Greensmaster TriFlex customer in Wales– without even trialling this revolutionary new greensmower.

Keen to keep ahead of the game, 18-hole course Peterstone Lakes snapped up two new TriFlex 3400-D machines as part of a wider investment in cutting-edge Toro technology worth £145,000.

Commercial director Elliston Millar says he and the team were confident Toro’s new mower would deliver without the need for a demo. “We were looking to replace our tees and surrounds mowers, but when we got details of the TriFlex through from our dealer Ted Hopkins we were very impressed on paper,” he recalls. “After getting our head greenkeeper, Nathan James, involved, we decided to buy it on the strength of the quality of the Toros we’ve already got and the service we’ve always received.”

Now that they’ve arrived, Elliston says the 3400-Ds have more than lived up to expectations. “The reports from the greenkeeping team are very positive – I’m told they float over the greens and are easy to use. Straight away we noticed the quality of cut – there’s a visible difference and members have also commented favourably. They’re everything you’d expect from a next-generation mower. We’re very happy.”

The club has also taken delivery of a new Reelmaster 3100-D fairway mower and a Groundsmaster 4700-D rough mower, as part of its commitment to improving the course. “We’ve been a Toro customer ever since PW Millar Golf Limited inherited the club in 1998,” Ellison continues. “Our original fleet included some old Toro machines – we looked around and researched the market but, because Toro was, and still is, the market leader, we decided to stick with them. We have full confidence in Toro.”

Elliston says the club strives to keep its machinery up-to-date. “The greenkeeping guys are very happy with all the new machines – they’re used to having the newest and the best. But we’re particularly proud to be first club inWalesto invest in TriFlex. Our greens machines had another one or two years in them, but we wanted to be ahead of the market and invest in the course for our members and visitors.”
