Crews Hill Golf Club is a challenging course to maintain. The 18-hole parkland venue is laid out over just 6,281 yards, most holes having undulating fairways. Strategically-placed bunkers make easy-looking holes a problem and there’s also a winding downhill brook to consider. And that’s not to mention the medieval strip cultivation that covers most of the fairways.

But these hurdles become less like challenges and more like opportunities when you’ve got the right equipment to deal with them, says course manager Adam McColl.

“This is Crews Hill’s first Toro deal. Each of the machines we’ve purchased we’ve done so because they can cope with the course, its needs and demands,” Adam says. “The advanced technology in, for example, the Triflex 3420 gives us a far cleaner cut because of the way the cutting units cling to the undulations so precisely. And despite challenging terrain the ProPass 200 topdresser has our tees and greens looking great in no time, it really is second to none.”

Joining two Triflex 3420s and the ProPass 200 at Crews Hill is the Reelmaster 5510-D, Groundsmaster 4300-D, GreensPro 1200 greens roller, MDX Workman, SR72 aerator and a TYM 503 tractor. So what made Adam choose Toro?

“I’ve worked at four clubs previously to joining Crews Hill. Two used Toro and two didn’t. So I’ve had practical experience with both Toro and non-Toro machines,” says Adam. “The deal is part of an on-going investment programme here to increase the standard of the key playing surfaces and handle year-round playing requirements, and it’s the first time the purchase decision has been mine.

“Considering the complete machinery range I felt Toro would suit the specific requirements of the course best and would help us reach our objectives. You do pay a little bit more for Toro but it’s worth it. The better build quality, durability and the results, plus the good level of customer service from James Boyle through our dealer Oliver Landpower, means this is a good value deal for us.”
