Maverston Golf Club websiteA new golf course in Moray will be open for play in April this year. Whilst all golfing eyes are on Scotland in 2014, with the Ryder Cup coming to Scotland in September and the Scottish Open moving to a new home, it should be noted that Maverston Golf Club is thought to be the only new Scottish course opening this year and is due to be launched at an event on the course on 1st April.

The Maverston Golf Course near Urquhart, only minutes from Elgin, will offer golfers an inclusive, friendly and welcoming environment in which to enjoy either the 18-hole 6284yd Par 70 parkland course or the 9-hole Par 3 course, giving an honest challenge to all levels of golfer.

Seeded in 2007, the Course’s official opening has long been anticipated by the local golfing community and it is hoped that it will create a great deal of interest from both national and international golfers alike.

Located just minutes off the A96 Aberdeen-Inverness trunk road, the course is well situated in the natural rolling landscape. This tranquil location provides the best possible setting for the perfect game of golf.

Designed by former Scottish international golfer Euan McIntosh, the course gives a wonderful backdrop of the Cairngorm Mountains to the south and perfect views towards the Moray Firth in the north and east.

Kieron Gallagher, who previously worked at The Castle Course, St Andrews, has been appointed Golf Manager for Maverston and says the course will offer a great test for golfers of all abilities.

He said: “Maverston has a fantastic setting which makes great use of the natural terrain with wonderful woodland and wildlife. Its location also has excellent links to both Inverness and Aberdeen, making it ideal for a good day out. Moray has a great reputation for first class golf courses and I am sure that Maverston will further enhance this status with some classic golfing holes on offer.

“An all-new clubhouse is to offer the best fresh, local food, as well as a selection of beverages from some of the finest micro-breweries found in Scotland. Our ‘19th hole’ will be open for golfers and non-golfers alike to enjoy the fantastic views and hospitality.

“Visitors to the course will be able to hire Clubs, Trolleys or Buggies from the Clubhouse, stock up on balls and tees, whilst members can book on-course lessons and tuition from one of our carefully selected local PGA Professionals.”

A new, online facility for will be available for both members and visitors with the user friendly system allowing players to book both a tee time and competition slots by linking through the Maverston Golf Club’s own website.

A number of memberships are now available for social or competitive golfers, and family, military or corporate packages also offered. Non-Members will be able to take advantage of our unlimited golf offer of a day rate of only £30.00/ £15.00 for juniors.
