New Look For Old Conna

12.37am 7th October 2009 - Course Development - This story was updated on Saturday, November 7th, 2009

Old Conna Golf Club, situated just twelve miles south of Dublin city centre, is embarking on the next stage of course improvements under the careful supervision of Swan Golf Designs (SGD).

The design of the ninth hole has long been a hot topic in the clubhouse, with several changes having been made to the hole over the years. However, the Club has now adopted the proposals of SGD and construction will begin in early October, with Bremur Sports Turf acting as the main contractor and Irish Turfcare as the irrigation contractor.

The works will entail the construction of a new back tee, recontouring of the fairway to increase the size of the landing area and to improve its visibility from the tee, reshaping of the green surrounds and the implementation of a new bunker strategy.

Alongside the changes to the ninth hole SGD have designed and will be overseeing the construction of new bunkering and the upgrading of the teeing areas on the seventh and eighth holes.

This year’s work comes on the back of SGD’s successful introduction of new bunkering on the 1st, 4th, 5th and 18th holes in 2008.

This autumn will see Old Conna Golf Club host one of Swan Golf Designs’ Renovation Seminars on 26th November. This aims to provide clubs in the Dublin area with an insight into what is involved in renovation projects.
