New ‘golf course for everyone‘ opens in north Kent

8.26am 6th August 2009 - Course Development

Golfers in north Kent are getting a rare gift this summer: a brand new golf course to play on. And there’s an Open Weekend on Saturday and Sunday 15-16 August to celebrate its opening.

Popular Orpington golf centre Chelsfield Lakes today announces details of its new baby, a challenging nine-hole golf course with undulating hills and top-quality greens.

The course, which consists of nine par three holes between 105 and 170 yards, replaces the previous course of similar length at Chelsfield Lakes – but presents a totally different and much-improved test to golfers. It will be officially ‘named’ in a ceremony at the Open Day.

Described as a ‘golf course for everyone’, the nine new holes are suitable not only for juniors and beginners, but also for advanced players who fancy a quick round.

The Open Weekend will celebrate the opening of the new golf course, with free golf coaching, fun competitions, free golf balls at the driving range and on-the-day-only offers in the pro shop – as well as the chance to tackle the new 9-hole course. There will also be a barbecue and a bouncy castle.

Yvonne Tait, General Manager of Chelsfield Lakes Golf Centre, said: “We are very proud of our new 9-hole golf course. It is an enormous improvement on what was there before, and I am certain that our members – and indeed golfers from all over the area – will really enjoy playing it!

“Our greenkeeping team has worked wonders over the last year. The new course is extremely interesting and challenging – it sets accomplished golfers a proper test, but it’s also short enough to be great fun for higher handicappers, younger players and of course beginners to the game.

“Our message to our members and to all local golfers is simple – “Feel Free” to come to Chelsfield Lakes and play our new nine hole course. Feel free to wear what you like while you play it, feel free to play it with up to three friends of any age or sex, and feel free to come along at any time. “Our new golf course really is for everyone!”

Tony Healy, Divisional Manager for Crown Golf, owners and operators of Chelsfield Lakes Golf Centre, said: “Golfers love to play new golf courses, and we’re absolutely delighted to be able to announce the arrival of this rare treat – a brand new golf course, which is open to everybody.

“The new course is ideal for an evening round in the summer, for a quick round as a warm-up for an 18-hole round, or – particularly for keener golfers – as a great way to test your iron and approach play. Play this course frequently, and we predict that your golf handicap will come tumbling down!

“We look forward to welcoming both existing members and visitors of all levels of golf experience to Chelsfield Lakes on Saturday 15 August where we expect the new course to quickly build a large number of loyal followers.”
