More renovation for Swan

12.36am 9th January 2008 - Course Development

Adding to their present renovation and restoration work at some 17 golf clubs at home and abroad, Swan Golf Designs, professional golf course architects based in Essex, are now working at three golf courses setting out long term upgrading programmes to bring each to modern day expectation and design performance.
• Donaghadee Golf Club, County Down, Northern Ireland
• Brookmans Park Golf Club, Hertfordshire, England
• Cherry Lodge Golf Club, Kent, England

All are receiving SGD’s attention in evaluating the design of the course – length, challenge, variety, balance…safety – and for initial implementation of a bunker strategy.

Nigel Henbury, the Practice’s senior architect adds, “We are particularly pleased to have been appointed at these old and respected clubs, inheriting designs by Colt and Braid, and with careful and sensitive appraisal bringing them up to date whilst giving full regard to the intent and spirit of the original design.

“Our work at Cherry Lodge is being carried out in conjunction with David Partridge, a professional golfer and a graduate of the professional diploma in golf course architecture.”

Work is currently being undertaken on each project, with a plan to implement the first stages of each over the next three months.
