8.23am 17th April 2008 - Course Development

On 10th April Colin Montgomerie made a scheduled site visit to The Papillon Montgomerie Golf Resort in Belek, Turkey, to view development of the course that is in the final stages of grow-in.

Whilst on the site inspection, Colin kept an appointment to review the golf maintenance facility and officially open the turf management building. In attendance were the Papillon Hotels and Resort owner, Mr. Mustafa Nazik; European Golf Designer representative Gary Johnston and distinguished dignitaries of the Turkish golf industry.

Discussing the importance of the maintenance equipment selection and the development of the course Cahit Şahin, general manager of the Golf Club, commented, “We have made every effort to employ and incorporate the most recent technology in the maintenance of this course and especially with the machinery fleet selection and irrigation system. Mustafa Nazik, our patron and owner has devoted a great amount of time personally to make sure we have the correct facility and systems in place to make this one of the top courses in Europe.”

The club have chosen strategic partners: John Deere for the maintenance equipment; Rain Bird Irrigation; Bernhard’s and company grinding system; Tycrop equipment for top dressing and material handling systems and Redexim for the scarification and aeration operations.

Peter Bradburn, director of golf maintenance, has been at the helm since the construction phase of the course. Peter, who has had nearly twenty years experience in golf course grow-in and construction, with notable designers such as Cabell Robinson, Ron Kirby, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player was able to explain some of the technology involved in the course preparation with Colin Montgomerie.

Peter stated later, “I am very pleased with the performance of all the elements that were selected for the maintenance and irrigation needs. It is defiantly the right combination for the right course”

The course was constructed by Golf Med of Turkey, the largest golf course construction company in the country and dealers for John Deere.
