#12 Las Colinas

Las Colinas Golf and Country Club, one of Europe’s finest golfing destinations is gearing up to welcome competitors from across the Continent to the second stage of The European Tour’s Qualifying School, which takes place this weekend, from December 2nd – 5th.

Recently recognised as one of the Top 100 Courses in Continental Europe in an esteemed annual review, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club will undoubtedly provide a stern test for some of golf’s brightest stars on their journey to achieving playing privileges for the 2012 season.

The field for the second stage is led by several young talents;  including 2009 Walker Cup Team member, Dale Whitnell, 2008 English Amateur Champion, Todd Adcock, and Dutchman Tim Sluiter, winner of the Final Stage of Qualifying School in 2010. There are also a number of seasoned campaigners in the field hoping to make their way back out on tour, including 1993 Ryder Cup team member Peter Baker and Benn Barham, a tour regular until 2009, who is looking to kick-start his career following a successful battle with kidney cancer.

Another player in the field to watch is Tom Whitehouse, who has been on and off the European Tour in recent years, and had a bright amateur career capped with a win at the Spanish Amateur Open Championship in 2001. With so many talented players on display it promises to be a tense weekend of action at Las Colinas Golf and Country Club.

Since it opened in early 2010, Las Colinas Golf and Country Club has quickly gained a reputation for its world-class facilities and championship golf course. Set within an area of great natural beauty, the Par 71, 6973 yard championship golf course has been designed by critically acclaimed architect Cabell B. Robinson. Las Colinas has a dramatic entrance carved out of a spectacular gorge, is surrounded by over 10,000 hectares of Mediterranean woodland, and offers stunning views over the Mediterranean Sea and the Mar Menor lagoon.

The golf course and its off-course facilities, including lavish “5-star” self-catering apartments and villas, clubhouse restaurants, comprehensive sports activities and private beach club have been showered with praise from visitors and the media.

“We are delighted to welcome some of the stars of the future to Las Colinas Golf & Country Club. The course will be in great condition and we expect to see some great golf over the four days play. The golf course and resort has been set up to host headline and showcase events and the rental apartments and villas of Las Colinas Residences are full with competitors and their families. We are in no doubt that this will be first of many high profile events here,” commented Juan Alvarez, Golf Course Managing Director, Las Colinas Golf & Country Club.
