Troon Golf®, the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing is delighted to announce that La Quinta Golf & Country Club is committing significant resource and investment to further improve one of Europe’s most popular golf destinations. Regarded by many as one of the most enjoyable spots for golf, La Quinta has announced strategic redesigns of key holes and renovation plans for the irrigation system.

The host to the Benahavis Senior Masters, this year won by multiple tour winner Carl Mason, is situated in the heart of the Marbella Golf Valley, only 5 minutes away from Puerto Banus. The announcement of the “Plan de Adaptacion” will see the Championship venue embrace a new decree recently set out by Junta de Andalucía. The new decree requires golf clubs to review all aspects of the management of their course, in particular, environmental efficiency of water use and safety standards.

“This is a considerable investment and demonstrates the confidence and commitment of the Board to further establish La Quinta as one of the very best facilities in the region and Europe. Our plan to develop the layout and irrigation system coincides nicely with the recent announcement set out by Junta de Andalucía. We have developed a strategic partnership with the team at Ramon Davila of Promotur in making sure we are operating at our most environmentally sensitive and as efficiently as possible and we are all looking forward to seeing positive results,” commented Scott Evans, Director General of La Quinta Golf & Country Club.

Two new par 3´s are being constructed and with work well under way the team at La Quinta are optimistic about presenting an altogether more challenging and fulfilling layout. The new irrigation system will allow a more efficient use of water and the ability to water greens and fairways independently.

In addition, a planting programme to include many indigenous plants will reduce water requirements in non playing areas and add further character to the course. The original layout, designed by renowned golfer Manuel Pinero is part of a 27 hole complex. Pinero, a resident of the area himself commented, “La Quinta is my home and very dear to my heart; I’m delighted to see all the improvements and certain the new layout and playability of the course will be much enjoyed by all the members and visitors alike.”

La Quinta Golf & Country Club has formed a strategic alliance with Troon Golf who have been working closely with the ownership to further enhance La Quinta as a golf resort and guests overall golf experience. Regarded as one of the most prestigious courses on the Costa del Sol, the golf resort can boast a luxury 170 bedroom five star hotel and Moroccan influenced SPA.

Troon Golf EMEA is committed to developing Troon Golf’s presence in Europe, Middle East and Africa. This rapidly expanding division now oversees operations at 36 courses in 13 countries including Dubai, Portugal, Spain and England with further expansion planned across all regions.
