Members and visitors to St Andrews Links Trust’s renowned Golf Academy are enjoying sharpening up their games on pristine surfaces following the installation of new all-weather surfaces by Huxley Golf.

Huxley Golf Premier Tee Turf 2 was used for the two tees that lay to both sides of St Andrews’ Links Golf Academy. The large West Tee is some 200ft (61m) x 6ft (1.8m), while the East Tee measures 139ft (42m) x 12ft (3.6m) and is positioned close to the famous Old Course.

More than 250,000 rounds of golf are played every year by golfers across St Andrews Links, many of whom visit the Academy for instruction and practice in a setting which combines modern methods with its historic location.

Steve North, Director of Instruction at St Andrews Links Trust, said: “The East and West tee strips at the St Andrews Links Golf Academy are always extremely popular with our customers who love to come and practice against the most famous backdrop in all of golf.

“Our Academy is used by visitors from all over the world, as well as our regular local customers, including a large student contingent, and it is important our practice surfaces are representative of the world-class service we provide to everyone who visits. Following a busy summer here, I’m delighted to be reopening these areas with brand new surfaces for the benefit of all of our guests.”

He continued: “St Andrews Links Golf Academy has been a loyal customer of Huxley Golf for nearly two decades and we trust the company to deliver in every way. The service delivery is in line with our own exacting standards, and I know that the product will perform precisely as promised – realistic, robust and incredibly easy and quick for our team to maintain.”

Hugh Fraser, Scotland & North East England Area Manager for Huxley Golf, added: “We know the St Andrews team well and fully understand the vital role that the all-weather tee strips play at the Academy, so we were pleased to be able to swing into action following The Open to update them.

“We originally laid the tees in 2007, so it’s testimony to the quality of our golf surfaces that they have lasted so long under such constant use and in a challenging climate. I’m confident that they will add to the St Andrews experience for the golfers of all ages and abilities that go there to improve their game.”
