Huxley Golf has collaborated with PING to launch three new exceptional VIP bays at its European Custom Fitting Centre at Gainsborough Golf Club.
Mike Lea, European Fitting and Education Manager for Ping, had a clear brief for the project based around performance, durability, aesthetics and comfort. He explains: “We conduct up to 5,000 fittings every year at our European Custom Fitting Centre, with 15 appointments per day, so surface durability was an important consideration for us. Equally important, was to create a performance-oriented setting with accurate spin and launch characteristics, with an aesthetically pleasing environment that was comfortable for our clients to enjoy. I’m pleased to say that I achieved all of my objectives.”
The three new fitting bays comprising a total surface area of 43ft (13m) x 15ft (4.5m) were created using a combination of the premier surfaces that Huxley Golf is known for. A central section of new Huxley Golf Iron Play Turf is flanked with Premier Tee Turf on both sides to accommodate left and right handed players. The playing surfaces are then surrounded by 20mm Premier Leisure Turf to complete a luxurious look. All Huxley Golf surfaces are designed with longevity, low maintenance and accurate playing characteristics in mind to ensure that clients continue to benefit long after their installation.
Although he had not worked with Huxley Golf before, Mike Lea knew of the company’s reputation for quality and service and liked the fact that they were a British company too. After making initial contact, he found both the transformation process and the end result impressive. Working closely with Huxley Golf’s Paul Chester, the team spent time working up ideas that worked for both parties and an excellent working relationship was built, along with precisely the right design to meet his exacting requirements. The clever final design not only meets current needs but also helps to future proof the facility by enabling the partial replacement of surfaces, should this be required in the future.

General Manager at Huxley Golf, Paul Chester, said: “We worked really closely with Ping to ensure that we delivered to their exacting requirements during the bespoke design phase and during installation. We worked around our client’s appointment schedules, fitting the new bays immediately after Christmas to minimise the impact on their operations. Although we’d allocated three days for the installation, we were off-site after just half that time, really helping to get golfers back through the doors and trying out their new facility. We’re thrilled with the end result.”
