The 7,000-yard, par 72 Machynys Peninsula Golf Club near Llanelli, which is set to open this autumn, has already signed up more than 100 members.
“I had expected a healthy interest in a facility of this calibre, but I‘m absolutely stunned by this level so far in advance,” said Jim Anderson, the joint venture’s chairman and managing director.
“This is not a club in an exclusive sense – because it will be open for anyone to drop in to play golf – subject to a handicap certificate,” he said. “But to enjoy the resort to the full and get special benefits, people should take up one of the membership packages we‘re offering and – on this evidence – sign up as soon as possible.”
The golf course has been designed by Gary Nicklaus, son of the legendary Jack, who has played on the PGA and European Tours himself and is an accomplished course architect.
The challenging links-style lay out, overlooking Carmarthen Bay, will be accompanied by a golfing centre of excellence with exceptional coaching and practice facilities including driving range and short play areas.
The £2.5m Monks clubhouse will have luxury locker rooms, pro shop, bars and golf day function rooms and a sun deck overlooking the 18th hole with sea views. It will also house a 35-station gym, luxury spa facilities, beauty treatment rooms, a five star brasserie restaurant, bars and functions rooms.
Membership fees will cost from:
The Nicklaus Joint Venture partnership comprises Nicklaus Design, established by legendary player Jack Nicklaus and development and project management group, Sawtrees Ltd, and Southern Golf, Europe’s largest and most successful golf construction company.
