Four Glendale Golf centres in the UK are planning to host GolfSixes events during May.
The evening and weekend events will be open to members and non-members, and if it proves as popular as expected, regular league style events are planned for the rest of the year.
The six-hole events will take place at Richmond Park in London; Tilgate Forest in West Sussex; Portsmouth Golf Course in Hampshire; and Duxbury Park in Chorley, Lancashire.
Players will play in pairs and compete in a match play, better ball format. They’ll also follow Glendale’s ‘ready, steady, golf’ policy, which avoids slow play.
Tom Brooke, managing director of Glendale Golf, commented: “There’s a huge buzz about golf following Tiger’s great win and we know lots of people want to play golf more regularly, but haven’t got time for a full 18-hole round. GolfSixes is ideal for them, it’s fun, it’s competitive, it’s sociable – and it’s quick. The team matchplay format also brings with it that extra edge that we normally only see at The Ryder Cup! Our mission is to show that golf is accessible, enjoyable and a game for all and GolfSixes is a great way to spread that message.”
England Golf is supporting the project as part of its partnership with the European Tour to promote the popular GolfSixes format to club members. Claire Hodgson, England Golf Head of Engagement, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for us to showcase that there are many different ways to play golf. It doesn’t matter whether you’ve got 30 minutes, an hour or three hours, there’s always a way to play golf and GolfSixes is one of them.”
Feedback from the project will be used to help spread the concept to other clubs.
