Faldo’s Cyprus course on schedule

7.44am 13th June 2008 - Course Development

Six-time major winner and 2008 Ryder Cup captain, Nick Faldo, has been to visit the Palmerston Anatolikon Golf Resort project in Cyprus for an inspection of the Faldo Design 18-hole championship golf course and meetings with the contractors and Palmerston’s project team.

Southern Golf, reputedly the best golf course construction company in Europe, is on schedule with the construction of this exciting new project. The selected architects for the resort are the international firm of Hart Howerton, based in London.

Only ten minutes east of the beautiful seaside resort town of Paphos, the Palmerston Anatolikon Golf Resort is set in the hillside facing south and enjoys views of the sea and the attractive surrounding countryside. Palmerston Hotels & Resorts are developing this resort in partnership with the Cyprus-based Eliades group. The joint venture’s stated goal is to create one of Europe’s finest resort destinations and the 18-hole Nick Faldo golf course is to be the focal point of the development.

Faldo commented, “I’m delighted with the early progress of our project at the Palmerston Resort and I’m certain that we will deliver a course that will become a real talking point in Cyprus and the Mediterranean. At around 6,900 yards from the tips, the emphasis here will be on thoughtful, rather than big-hitting, golf and there will be plenty of strategic riddles for the golfer to explore and unravel over all 18 holes.

“This course will work in harmony with the region’s arid landscape and, with its hill-top setting and sea views, golf at the Palmerston Resort will be an experience that low and high handicappers alike will want to engage with again and again.”

The golf course, academy and clubhouse construction is part of a five year development programme and will include club residential units, up-market villas and town houses built into the hillside and overlooking the course and the Mediterranean. Planning consent has also been given for a country club, which will contain a world class spa and extensive dining and leisure facilities.

Palmerston Hotels & Resorts continues its aggressive expansion plans and expects to have 20 hotels and resorts in operation or under development by 2011. This collection of properties will be unique in architecture, interior design and standard of facilities.

With headquarters in Hong Kong and regional offices in the UK and Europe, Palmerston specialises in turnkey development and management of luxury boutique hotels and integrated resorts combining hotel, spa, golf and real estate.
