Extension opens at top Austrian course

8.25am 3rd July 2007 - Course Development

Golf Club Adamstal (Ramsau, Austria), a member of the “Leading Golf Courses of Austria” has opened a new 9 hole extension.

The par 70 course, originally opened in 1998, has hosted the Man Nö-Open in recent years and was designed by Ireland based Jeff Howes Golf Design, one of the largest firms of golf architects in Europe. The course extension is also a Jeff Howes design and will enhance the playing experience at this challenging mountain course.

“Our work in the design and development of this new 9 hole extension is a source of immense pride for the team and me. Since our design of the original 18 hole course, GC Adamstal has gone from strength to strength and this beautiful mountain course is now established as one of the premier courses in Europe,” said Jeff Howes, managing director, Jeff Howes Golf Design.

Owned by Franz Wittmann and Hans Zoechling, Franz being of Austrian Rally Driving fame, GC Adamstal is situated amidst Austria’s alpine foothills and boasts magnificent views of the mountains. The course is maintained immaculately and in addition, the over 100 year old clubhouse has been restored in line with its original features. GC Adamstal is yet again due to host the Challenge Tour event 2007 in July.

Jeff Lynch from Jeff Howes Golf Design oversaw the construction of this project and commented, “Adamstal GC and its environs is a stunning yet challenging piece of land. This golf course has been carefully sculpted through this beautiful mountainous terrain, an artistic and engineering feat and a credit to everyone involved. The end product being a golf course where even if your golf game resembles that of a wounded pig, you can sit back, take in the magnificent views and realize you are in a special place soon forgetting the bad shots, well, at least until the next one anyway!”

One of Europe’s largest Golf Architect Firms, Jeff Howes Golf Design was established in 1991. The company based in Kilkenny, Ireland, now employs a highly qualified team of experts who are all members of the European Institute of Golf Course Architects (EIGCA).

Current projects include – Farnham Estate Golf Club, Bunclody Golf & Fishing Club, Tramore Golf Club and the Carrig Glas Golf Club, a co-design with Retief Goosen as well as projects in Austria, Norway and Hungary.
