Estonian Golf & Country Club is set to expand with plans for a new 18-hole golf course to sit alongside its renowned Sea Course, ranked in Golf World’s Top 100 Courses in Europe.
The recent purchase of 47.5 hectares of land adjacent to its nine-hole Stone Course will allow Estonian Golf & Country Club to remodel the existing course and add a further nine holes to make a completely new 18-hole layout.
Located just 20 minutes outside the historic capital of Tallinn, the resort – part of the European Tour Courses network – will now cover 180 hectares, with two 18-hole golf courses and 125 real estate plots in six separate villages, all nestled on the coast of the Gulf of Finland and banks of the Jägala River Delta.
The new course will be constructed on land within the Rebala National Heritage Area and will incorporate a number of ancient burial grounds dating back to the Bronze Age as well as giant granite boulders from the ice age.
Mait Schmidt, Estonian Golf & Country Club President, said: “We will be announcing a headline course architect in the coming months and expect work to commence on the new course at the end of next year.
“We have had plans to develop the Stone Course into a full 18-hole golf course for some time and continue our vision of making Estonian Golf & Country Club one of Europe’s finest golf resorts.
“Alongside the Sea Course, which has received international acclaim, we will have a second course that we are sure will be held in just as high regard by golfers from all over the world.”
Estonian Golf & Country Club’s Sea Course winds its way through forest before opening up alongside the Gulf of Finland and Jägala River Delta and has twice hosted the Omega Mission Hills World Cup European Qualifier.
The award-winning clubhouse is located on top of the Ristikangru hill, from where golfers can enjoy a post round drink and bite to eat with excellent views of the JägalaRiver and its surrounding areas.
