Championship Golf Course for south east Ireland

9.45am 2nd April 2007 - Course Development

One of the largest golf architect firms in Europe, the Kilkenny based Jeff Howes Golf Design has been commissioned to design a brand new 18 hole championship standard Golf course at a 300 acre greenfield site in Bunclody, Co Wexford.

The course, which will include a state of the art practice area and club house is being developed by local consortia, Bunclody Estates Ltd., and with construction imminent is expected to be open for play in late 2008 or early 2009.

“We are delighted to have been given the opportunity to design this new course at Bunclody. The site is absolutely gorgeous, offering spectacular views and wonderful natural resources including mature woodland and the river Slaney, which runs alongside the site for 3.5kms. We plan to incorporate these unique elements into the 7,000 yard long course design – more than half the holes will be bordered by woodland, with additional holes played by the river – to deliver a championship standard course which will provide enjoyment for golfers of all abilities” commented Jeff Howes, managing director, Jeff Howes Golf Design.

“We believe this site contains some fantastic natural resources, which we hope will allow it to become one of the best courses in Europe. We are delighted to be working with Jeff Howes Golf Design on this project, as they are experts in harnessing the natural environs to develop memorable playing experiences for all golfers” said Ciaran Redmond of Bunclody Estates Ltd.

Other designs by Jeff Howes Golf Design, which was established in 1991, include Farnham Estate, Radisson SAS, Cavan, Gowran Park Golf Course, Kilkenny and Golf Club Adamstal, Austria.
