A High Court Judge in Northern Ireland has rejected a legal challenge by the National Trust which claimed that building a new golf resort near the Giant’s Causeway would have a major environmental impact upon the country’s only UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site.

Work can now begin on an 18-hole championship golf course, designed by David McLay Kidd, clubhouse, golf academy, a five-star 120-bedroom hotel, 75 golf lodges and a spa to be known as Bushmills Dunes Golf Resort and Spa.

The project will create 300 new jobs in addition to 360 jobs during its construction.

“There is no reason why Bushmills with its sand dunes and Atlantic wind cannot become a top 100 course,” said Kidd.
