Centurion Club celebrates a decade of continuous improvement

9.06am 12th September 2023 - Course Development

Centurion Club in Hertfordshire celebrated its 10th birthday earlier this summer with back-to-back tournament weeks of star-studded golf featuring some of the world’s top players for the men’s and women’s profressional game.

LIV Golf London saw the likes of Cameron Smith, Brooks Koepka, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed and Dustin Johnson compete in front of over 45,000 fans, while Nelly Korda, Charley Hull, Leona Maguire and Georgia Hall graced the fairways in the LET Aramco Team Series tournament.

Smith took home the individual honours at the LIV event with a score of -14, with the 4 Aces taking the team event in a thrilling finish. At the Aramco event, world no.2 Nelly Korda won the individual title by four shots, with Georgia Hall and her team triumphing in the team event with a one-shot victory.

Centurion hosted the Aramco Team Series and LIV Golf London back to back this summer, with Nelly Korda winning the LET event and Cam Smith the LIV Golf League tournament

Commenting on the momentous two weeks of golf, Centurion Club Managing Director Scott Evans said: “What a way to for us to mark our 10th birthday; everyone at the Club has worked incredibly hard to make sure things went smoothly and the feedback from players and officials alike has been wonderful.”                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                             When Centurion Club opened its doors in 2013, it promised golfers a club with a difference, with fewer rules and regulations, allowing members to enjoy a new type of lifestyle club, which encourages an entrepreneurial spirit to thrive.

Ten years on and the club has achieved this and much more, with a burgeoning membership, a superb golf course and first class off-course facilities. To allow the members to celebrate the milestone in the club’s history, a 10th anniversary party was held ahead of the tournaments.

Supporting Evans in the development of the club since its inception are Dutch partners Bert Pronk and Andre Hendriks. In the past decade they have helped oversee the maturing of a widely acclaimed 18-hole course and ever improving clubhouse and practice facilities. In addition, plans have recently been submitted for an additional nine holes, work on which will start as soon as approved.

In addition to hosting the inaugural LIV Golf event in 2022 and the Aramco Team Series events, Centurion has also hosted the GolfSixes event on the European Tour in 2019 and the Paddy Power Shoot-Out, the first golf event played in the UK post the Covid pandemic.

Centurion Club members and their guests benefit from a relaxed yet attentive service from the young and enthusiastic golf team, headed up by General Manager Michael Duffy and Director of Golf Peter Holland.

Planning permission has been sought to build a further nine holes at Centurion

With views across the lake to the 18th green, the clubhouse at Centurion Club is a contemporary stone building with a stunning courtyard restaurant and bar, locker room and business meeting rooms. The clubhouse is also home to a sympathetically designed restaurant, which is open to the public, with Head Chef, Calvin Hill and his team overseeing an exciting, seasonal menu.

Commenting on the milestone of reaching 10 years old, Evans added: “Nobody thought we could achieve what we have done here at Centurion Club, but I’m delighted to have proved the doubters wrong and shown that there is a place for the type of forward-thinking club we have created. Great credit must go to all the staff and the members who have backed us all the way and are so proud of the club that has evolved.”
