Carden Park celebrates Cheshire golf course 25th anniversary

6.07pm 15th September 2018 - Course Development

Carden Park hosted a celebratory golf game in recognition of the Cheshire golf course silver anniversary. Since opening, over a million rounds of golf have been played on the Cheshire Course at the luxury Carden Park country estate.

The Cheshire course, one of two at the luxury Carden Park Hotel, is situated at the back of the estate. It opened in 1993, and pre-dates the hotel by four years.

The championship course, which has been used to host pre-qualifying events for the European tour, enjoys beautiful views across the 1,000-acre estate out to the Welsh hills beyond.

Over the years, the course has had major investment including £80,000 spent on the bunkers in 2014 improving the design to flow with the natural contours of the landscape –so one dodgy swing and you could well find yourself reaching for the sand wedge!

Among those to have chipped, driven and putted their way across Carden Park’s fairways and greens are celebrities including Michael Owen, Peter Crouch, Jasper Carrott, Paddy McGuinness, Dennis Taylor, and Coronation Street actor Johnny Briggs.

As with all great courses the Cheshire has natural hazards to test each player’s mettle.

The four-star 198-bedroom hotel, located just 20 miles from Chester, offers an award-winning spa and AA rosette awarded restaurant as well as the two golf courses.

The additional golf course was designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus, the 18-time winner of major championships.

The celebratory golf evening took place on Thursday 31st August. And included a fantastic turnout of members and non- members alike who took part in a 9-hole competition and enjoyed a hog roast style meal to celebrate. The celebrations went on into the night. General manager Hamish Ferguson says, “The evening was a perfect celebration of a fantastic 25 years and we look forward to the future, testing many more players and hosting plenty more games.”
