Blainroe Golf Club opens new championship course

12.25am 22nd April 2005 - Course Development

The official opening of the newly remodelled course at Blainroe Golf Club, Blainroe, Co. Wicklow is to take place on Saturday 30th April 2005. Situated in the beautiful surroundings of Wicklow with sea views from all 18 holes, this enjoyable and challenging parkland course carries the prestigious Hawtree & Son design signature. Established in 1978, the course has been almost completely transformed on a phased basis over the last three years.
The re-designing and modernization of the course has seen the original greens replaced and modified, new tees, new fairway and greenside bunkers installed, fairways reduced in width and a large number of additional trees planted. All greens are now sand based.
In addition to the new course, extensive refurbishment of the locker rooms and kitchen were completed. An underpass was also built providing an underground walkway between the first green and second tee box for the safety of visitors and members. The total cost of the project over the period was in excess of 2.4 million euros.
“These changes to the golf course will take Blainroe Golf Club to a new level of excellence as one of the best golf courses on the east coast of Ireland, with the course measuring 6,175 metres off the back tees, this course will test the best players while offering an enjoyable experience to all golfers whatever their handicap,” said Michael Geraghty snr, captain of Blainroe Golf Club.
With its makeover complete, Blainroe can now be considered one of Ireland’s most challenging courses and one that is well worth the visit!
