12.22pm 24th March 2021 - Course Development

Antognolla Golf are delighted with their progress of the GEO Foundation sustainability programme, OnCourse®, following a recent visit by Stefano Boni, Agronomist and Ecology Officer for the Federazione Italiana Golf (Italian Golf Federation).

With sustainability and the environment being at the heart of the whole Antognolla Resort and Residences development, Antognolla Golf has adopted a proactive approach to implementing its sustainability initiatives. Antognolla Golf has committed to the GEO managed OnCourse® sustainability programme that includes global stakeholders such as the R&A, the European Tour and is supported by many golf industry associations and national federations including the Federazione Italiana Golf (Italian Golf Federation). GEO have a sustainability agenda for golf including fostering nature, conserving resources, taking climate action, benefiting our communities and golf can make a real contribution to this.

Starting in November 2020, the team at Antognolla Golf have been implementing best practice and initiatives as part of the annual maintenance programme and recording and capturing key data. This information will then be monitored and evaluated and ultimately be used to verify the sustained performance as Antognolla will aim to become GEO Certified later in the year.

Stefano Boni briefly commented, “Very pleased to see all the sustainability initiatives, from water management to biodiversity enhancement. I look forward to seeing this sustainable golf facility GEO Certified soon if they continue to achieve the results.”

César Burguière, Golf Director for Antognolla stated, “Golf can play a vital role in Antognolla’s sustainable objectives. By committing to OnCourse® we have the benefit of utilising the valuable tools, materials and sharing of ideas of the sustainability community. Ultimately the system will help us reach our aim of becoming GEO certified and play our part in contributing to the welfare of nature, conserving resources and our communities”.

César added, “The golf course maintenance team, led by Gian Mario Geromino, have worked hard to ensure sustainability is at the heart of all decisions. But it is not just about the golf course and environment and all the team play their part. The local junior golf development initiative with the Giuseppe DI VITTORIO school is now in its second year and gives the kids a great opportunity to go and experience new activities, which is just fantastic to see.”
