Troon wins inaugural ‘Green Award’

7.06am 27th October 2008 - Corporate

Troon Golf has been selected as the winner of the inaugural Golf Inc. “Green Award” in the companies and associations category. The award recognizes Troon Golf’s efforts for outstanding development, management and leadership in implementing the new Troon Golf Environmental Management Initiative (EMI), which embraces environmental sustainability.

“We are thrilled to receive the Golf Inc. Green Award and to be recognized for creating sustainable solutions at our golf courses,” stated Jeff Spangler, senior vice president, science and agronomy, Troon Golf. “Responsible environmental management has always been a key component of Troon Golf’s operating philosophy and we are eager to continue to set the standard for environmental leadership.”

The results were determined by a distinguished panel of judges who reviewed entry forms submitted by more than 50 courses, companies and products. These judges included Michael Hurdzan of Hurdzan-Fry Golf Course Design, Greg Lyman of the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America, and John Crowder of ValleyCrest Golf Course Maintenance.

Troon Golf EMI is thought to be the golf industry’s first unified plan for environmental stewardship. The voluntary initiative combines a robust set of policies and procedures by combining three distinguished environmental programs together. These programs include the Troon Golf Environmental Management System (EMS), the company’s long-established Troon Agronomy Standards, and the Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary Program for Golf Courses.
