Direct GolfUK, Europe’s leading multi-channel golf retailer, is celebrating after a hugely successful Grand Opening Weekend at both their new Scottish Superstores in Edinburgh and Dundee.

Ryder Cup legend and Scottish Golfing hero, Sam Torrance OBE, was on-hand with the Ryder Cup to meet the hoards of golfers at both stores, as they queued to get hold of the latest golf equipment from the UK’s number one discount golf retailer.

The first customer to make a purchase and meet Sam at the Dundee Store, was 14-handicapper, Greg Lorimar from Arbroath Artisan Golf Club, commenting: “Meeting Sam was just brilliant.” Already an online Direct Golf UK customer, Greg was keen to visit the new store and was rewarded for his efforts by Direct Golf UK Chairman, John Andrew, who presented him with a free round of golf for four players on the Torrance Course at the Fairmont St Andrews, worth £500.

The Grand Openings for both stores took place from Saturday 24th – Sunday 25th March 2012 and provided the Scottish public with not only the opportunity to meet Sam and the get their picture with the Ryder Cup, but also to test all the very latest golf equipment from all the major brands as well as take advantage of some limited edition special offers.

Tom Andrews, Dundee Store Manager, commented: “It was an absolute pleasure and real honour to have Sam Torrance at the Grand Opening. We had customer’s queuing outside before the store opened to get some of the great offers and all were delighted to get the opportunity to meet Sam and have their picture taken with the Ryder Cup. The store was very busy with a real buzz in the air”

While in Edinburgh, Chris Targett, Store Manager, said: “The store was just manic on the Saturday and the staff and customers loved it. Sam Torrance was just great, signing products and photographs and getting his picture taken with everyone. Having the Ryder Cup in-store was a big attraction – people couldn’t believe it.”

Since acquiring the stores from Scottish Golf Centre in January, Direct GolfUKhas wasted little time in modernising the stores and dramatically increasing the amount of stock both stores carried to ensure they met with the company’s philosophy of providing the widest selection of golf equipment from all the latest brands.

The impressive 5,500 sq foot high-street Edinburgh store and 4,000 sq foot Dundee store both boast start-of-the-art Global Play golf simulators giving local golfers the ability to demo all the latest equipment from all the biggest brands on-site and benefit from Direct Golf’s full custom-fitting service offered by its PGA Professional staff. With indoor putting greens, specialist clothing sections and full demo facilities, the new superstores are perfectly equipped to epitomise Direct Golf UK’s ‘total customer satisfaction’ pledge.

John Andrew, Chairman for Direct GolfUK, commented: “It was fantastic to see so many golfers turn out in force to see Sam, the Ryder Cup and visit our new stores.  It was a pleasure to personally meet so many keen golfers in both Dundee and Edinburgh and vindicates our decision for opening stores here.”

The positive news follows another successful grand opening at the Teesside Store last weekend, as Direct Golf UK continues to add new retail outlets with golfers across the UK appreciating Direct Golf UK’s mix of World Class customer service, massive stocks allied with the best prices in the UK.

Speaking after a busy day at both stores, Sam Torrance, said: “I’m delighted to be here supporting John and Direct GolfUK. It’s great that they now have stores in Scotland and are  providing such great service to Scottish Golfers.”

“It is always nice to come back home to Scotland and to meet so many enthusiastic golfers, young and old, pass on a few tips and put a few smiles of people’s faces” addedTorrance.
