Textron wins prestigious contract from Birmingham City Council

8.20am 9th June 2000 - Corporate

The contract, that totals in excess of £1 million, is for a whole raft of equipment from the Jacobsen, Ransome and Cushman brands, that will be used to maintain the Council’s eight municipal golf courses, some of the major parks and the ornamental areas in the city centre.

Always keeping abreast of environmental issues, the Council included four Ransome’s E-Plex II electric-powered triple reel mowers in order to ensure that grounds maintenance would be carried out on their golf courses, some of which are situated close to residential areas.

E.T. Breakwell of Shirley, Textron’s dealer for the West Midlands, began the delivery of the equipment recently. Sales manager Alastair Rathbone comments, “We are absolutely delighted to have secured this substantial order. Through a forum of service providers set up by the Council we have been extensively involved with the consultative processes and have been able to provide positive feedback to assist them in the formulation of their tender strategy under Best Value.”

Richard Bishop, national accounts manager at Textron said, “The introduction of Best Value is a significant step forward as far as we are concerned. It’s not just an issue of lowest price, it’s now a case of providing a complete package including service and staff training to ensure that the client receives the best value that we can offer.”
