Stylo shoes back on course

8.20am 24th October 2007 - Corporate

Stylo, one of Britain’s best known golf shoe manufacturers, is back on course following major investment into the business, a brand relaunch and a comprehensive redesign of its products.

The new look Stylo, whose new trade catalogue is now available to retailers, is benefiting from new, dynamic, stylish designs that have already led to a 15% increase in year-on-year sales across the company’s account base of more than 500 green grass golf shops.

Mark Wilkinson, the Leicester-based entrepreneur whose successful clothing business acquired exclusive rights to the Stylo brand 12 months ago, said, “Stylo is still one of the most recognised British golf brands among consumers and has enormous potential, although in recent years it has been treading water.

“Our first objective was to reinvigorate the shoe designs with bolder styles and brighter colours that would appeal to more golfers, while retaining the core values of Stylo’s heritage that appeal to the more traditional customer. We have done this with the help of designer Sandy Baker, who heads up our design studio in Leicester.

“We have been careful to maintain key retailer benefits, which remain outstanding quality – resulting in one of the golf industry’s lowest returns rates for shoes – and exceptional value, including a 12-month waterproof guarantee across the whole range, Champ spikes and bellows tongue. The reaction from retailers has been excellent – and it has given us confidence to put in place plans for the future development of the brand.”

As well as the Typhoon, Stylo’s bestselling shoe, the company is enjoying success with its new ladies shoes, including the Caprice and Sofia, plus children’s shoes and other specialist products.

“Innovation and new designs are at the heart of what we are doing at Stylo and over the coming year we aim to introduce a completely new sole unit that will be totally different to anything currently available to golf retailers,” Mark Wilkinson added. “These are exciting times for Stylo and our retail partners, and we look forward to working together to benefit our respective businesses.”
