STRI Commended At Business Awards

1.41am 4th November 2013 - Corporate

STRI website STRI websiteSTRI, the world’s leading sports turf consultancy, has been highly commended at the annual Yorkshire Post Excellence in Business Awards 2013. Bingley-based STRI (previously Sports Turf Research Institute) was a finalist in the category of companies with a turnover up to £10m.

This latest acclamation follows award success earlier this year when STRI won the Outstanding International Business 2013 Award from British Expertise.

For the Yorkshire Post’s Excellence in Business Awards 2013, STRI successfully progressed to the latter stages of the Small Business of the Year Award category (for businesses with under £10 million turnover).  Entrants were then narrowed down to the final shortlist through a site visit and assessment of overall achievements throughout the past year.

As part of the final judging process, an awards assessor from Yorkshire Bank (category sponsors), visited STRI’s Head Office in Bingley and collected information from Chief Executive, Gordon McKillop, regarding STRI’s extensive involvement in the preparations for the London 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics and UEFA EUROS 2012 held in Poland and the Ukraine.

Gordon McKillop, STRI’s Chief Executive said: “It’s great news and very satisfying to be a finalist in the Excellence in Business Awards especially as there is such a variety of businesses in Yorkshire really making an impact on the global stage. After winning the Outstanding International Business Award from British Expertise earlier this year in recognition for the work we undertook in Ukraine, particularly Kharkiv, this is another excellent achievement which the entire STRI team can be immensely proud.

“This commendation is another indication of STRI putting Yorkshire on the world map and further cements our position and reputation in the turf management industry for delivering world class playing surfaces both domestically and around the world.”

STRI was established in 1929, in association with the UK Golf Unions and The R&A (Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews), to provide research and advisory services for golf clubs on their golf greens and courses.

The company’s website at www.stri.co.uk contains more information on STRI and their range of services.
