The organisers of the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship have joined forces with local Cornish chef Jack Stein to serve up some tasty dishes for players and spectators to savour at next year’s event.
Jack Stein, chef director at the Rick Stein Group, has agreed to cook the Pro-Am dinner and provide pop-up food stalls for spectators at the 2020 Championship staged at Trevose Golf and Country Club from June 18-21.
Stein, who is a keen golfer and member at Trevose, spoke of his excitement at the combination of two of his passions.
“I am very excited to be working alongside Trevose Golf Club for this event with Champions (UK) plc. I grew up on the headland at Trevose and love it, I have wonderful memories of the golf course and surrounding beaches. I am very much looking forward to working with our friends the Gammon family, who run the club, to make this event a celebration of North Cornwall.”
The Rick Stein Group has restaurants in Cornwall based in Padstow, St Merryn, Fistral, Porthleven and Falmouth, as well as in Marlborough, Sandbanks, Winchester and London. In 2013 Jack took on the role of executive chef, overseeing the company’s pub, cookery school and restaurants, as well as its brigade of chefs before being promoted to chef director in 2017.
Next year marks the second of a three-year agreement between the tournament and Trevose Golf & Country Club and will see Ryder Cup stars and Major winners go head-to-head for the €50,000 prize that comes with the coveted event title. The total prize fund for the tournament is €200,000. Once again, the tournament will be organised by leading brand agency Champions (UK) plc and their Director of Sport Tim Munton is delighted to have forged this new partnership.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jack Stein on board with the Farmfoods European Legends Links Championship 2020,” he said. “It is clear to see that Jack shares the same love and talent for food as his father and it’s great to have him heading up this partnership. The Rick Stein Group are renowned throughout the Cornish region and with Jack’s love of golf the partnership felt a very natural one. We all look forward to his involvement with the event next year and it’s fantastic to have such an iconic Cornish brand associated with the championship. And of course, we can’t wait to sample Jack’s chosen dishes on the course in June!”
Nick Gammon, Managing Director at Trevose Golf & Country Club added: “After the success of last year’s inaugural event we are delighted to have Jack supporting us in 2020. Jack has been a member and a friend of Trevose for many years, and I’m sure he will put together a wonderful selection of food both out on the course for spectators and for our Pro-Am dinner. His involvement is yet another exciting landmark in the history of this tournament.”
