Srixon Become Title Sponsor of TGI Golf Amateur Championship

2.57pm 1st May 2015 - Corporate

TGI Srixon Amateur ChampsThe TGI Golf Amateur Championship, which sees amateur golfers from across the UK and Ireland compete for the coveted crown, has a new title sponsor in the form of Srixon.

The event, staged by golf’s leading retail services group, is now in its sixth year and has been staged at prestigious venues such as Wentworth, Turnberry, Celtic Manor and The Belfry, which will also stage this year’s final.

The format of the event will see TGI Golf Partners staging qualifying medal events throughout the summer. The winner of each event will go onto a national leaderboard with the top 20 amateurs and their PGA Professionals going through to the grand final.

Those taking part in qualifying medals will be able to keep up-to-date with their progress on the national leaderboard via the microsite www.srixonamateurchampionship.co.uk.

This year’s final will take place at the four-time Ryder Cup venue on Thursday, September 3, where the Srixon Tour Truck will be present to allow competitors a behind the scenes look at life on tour for a Srixon Pro.

Srixon will supply prizes to each Partner who wishes to stage a qualifying event, with a Fairway Wood for first place, a Stand Bag for second and two dozen golf balls for third place.

Ben Davis, UK Brand/Marketing Manager Srixon/Cleveland Golf, said: “We jumped at the chance to sponsor this event having heard so many great things about it and TGI Golf events in general.

“We want to help find the best amateur golfer in the UK and Ireland, while supporting the green grass professionals by supplying great prizes for their qualifying medals as well as for the overall winner.”

Adele McLean, TGI Golf Group Services Manager, added: “The Amateur Championship is one of our many key events for our Partners, givingthem the opportunity to add value to their monthly medal and offering the chance to win a first class day out with one of their customers.”

Last year’s event was won by Liam Blacka and his PGA Professional Andy Rhodes from Keighley Golf Club, Yorkshire, at the world-famous Turnberry Resort. The pair will be back once again to defend their title.

Andy said: “Events like these are a great way for us as PGA Pros to give added value to our club members. It’s nice to give the members opportunities to play some of the world’s most famous courses. From the moment we arrived last night it has been perfect and winning the event has topped it off.”
