In just twelve months, eight of South Africa’s top golf resorts have invested in the latest GPS golf car technology from Club Car to improve control, customer experience and financial returns.

South Africa was named by IAGTO as 2011’s Best Golf Destination of the Year and resorts including current and past hosts of the Alfred Dunhill Championship – Leopard Creek and Houghton GC, respectively – are among those that have taken delivery of Club Car vehicles featuring the Visage RT+ mobile golf information system.

The groundbreaking GPS technology, which is integrated into Club Car golf vehicles, enables staff to remotely control the golf car fleet, optimise course maintenance with ‘no-drive’ zones, and monitor pace of play.

Visage also gives golfers precise shot and distance information, flyover video graphics of each hole, plus a live leaderboard during competitions.

Dan De Bruyn, Director of Golf at Zimbali Country Club that installed a brand new fleet of 60 Club Car vehicles for the Dolphin Coast resort in 2011, said: “There is a strong golf market in South Africa and the demand for quality GPS devices is high. The rate at which the top resorts are adopting the Visage system demonstrates the dedication of resorts like Zimbali to stay ahead of the game.”

The trend began with St Francis Links, which became the first course to invest in the Visage GPS mobile golf information system, in December 2010. Since then, seven other five-star resorts have followed suit.

There are now 350 golf cars in South Africa with the Visage RT+ GPS system. The speed at which this technology has spread through South Africa highlights the product quality, desirability and its ability to help courses increase revenues.

The golf cars, distributed by CSE Equipment inSouth Africa, are also available at Glendower, Silver Lakes Golf & Country Club, Johannesburg Country Club and most recently, Cotswold Downs, which was voted best conditioned course in KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) by Golf Digest, all feature the groundbreaking technology in their golf cars.
