Re-launch of Specialist Golf

12.10am 15th March 2004 - Corporate

Specialist Golf, makers of hand forged wedges the traditional way, has announced four player signings combining a blend of experience and youth that will provide the brand with exposure on four Tours in Europe during the 2004 season. The team will play Specialist’s highly acclaimed range of wedges, carry a handmade Tour bag and support the brand logo on headwear.
Providing exposure on the PGA European Tour will be the highly respected Malcolm Mackenzie. Now in his 21st successive season he has strong track record of consistent performance which was rewarded with a maiden Tour victory at the 2002 Novotel Perrier Open de France.
On the Ladies European Tour will be 2003 Solheim Cup vice captain Alison Nicholas. With an outstanding career record of tournament wins including the 1997 US Open and representative honours in no less than six Solheim Cups, Alison is a fantastic ambassador for the woman’s game and Specialist Golf alike.
An injection of youth is provided through Oliver Whiteley. Oliver turned professional in 2003 and his debut year has made a strong impact on the Europro Tour with 5 top 20 finishes including his maiden victory in the ISM International Derby. John Mellor, with a wealth of experience, will continue to play the Challenge Tour and has made an impressive start to the season finishing tied 9th at the season’s opening event, The Panama Masters.
Commenting on the new relationship with Specialist, Malcolm Mackenzie said, “Specialist wedges without question work, the feel and consistency is unlike anything I have experienced before.” Alison Nicholas said, “The hand forged story immediately interested me and very quickly I realised the process delivered a very different performance which will only enhance my short game.”
Specialist Wedges have a rich heritage dating back to legendry club maker Eddie Whitcombe, who during the 1950’s was respected by many of the world’s leading professional players as he became synonymous with quality club craftsmanship. As mentor to club maker and Specialist’s technical director Peter Simmonds, he inspired a vision to develop the perfect wedge, an ambition relentlessly pursued without compromise.
“We are very excited about the forthcoming season,” commented Peter Simmonds. “It is great testament to the product that quality players want to endorse our product on tour. News of our product is spreading fast and we are receiving requests almost weekly from professional and top amateurs players who have heard about Specialist Golf.”
Brand marketing will benefit from an updated new image that focuses on the unique forging process which distinguished Specialist from other wedges. The full package includes a new catalogue, a re-launched website, a full point of sale package and an extensive trial programme.
