Ryder Cup Europe has announced that ProQuip will be the Preferred Weatherwear Supplier to the European Team for The Ryder Cup at Valhalla Golf Club, Louisville, Kentucky, USA, in September 2008 and The Celtic Manor Resort, Newport, South Wales, in October 2010.

ProQuip, one of the world’s leading golf weatherwear manufacturers, will design and supply rain suits featuring fabric technology specially developed for The European Ryder Cup Team.

Richard Hills, European Ryder Cup director, said, “ProQuip has a long-standing association with both The European Tour and The Ryder Cup, and we are absolutely delighted to announce our close relationship with them will continue until at least 2010.”

Supplying The European Team for three consecutive matches further underlines ProQuip’s status as the most selected weatherwear supplier in Ryder Cup history.

The company has now been selected by 19 of 30 Ryder Cup teams (the European Team 10 times and the United States Team 9 times) since the company’s inception in 1981. Additionally, ProQuip has been chosen seven times to outfit both teams in the same year.

Based in the historic golfing town of North Berwick in Scotland, ProQuip is synonymous with ultra-lightweight and supremely soft waterproof- breathable golf clothing. The company’s American operation, ProQuip USA, is based in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla.

ProQuip, which produced the acclaimed Silk Touch rain suits worn by the victorious European Ryder Cup Team at The K Club in Ireland two years ago, will also develop a licensed range of commemorative Ryder Cup branded weatherwear, including men’s and women’s windwear and rain suits. The product will be available in the United States through the ProQuip USA’s website, www.proquipusa.net.

Richard Head, ProQuip managing director and chief designer, said, “The rain suit we are developing for this year’s European Ryder Cup Team is very special and features one of the most exciting fabric innovations this company has ever been involved with.

“Top professional golfers are now younger and more athletic and require weatherwear that not only performs to the highest levels, but works with them to enable free and powerful swing actions. This is precisely what the new ProQuip European Ryder Cup Team rain suit has been designed to do.”

In addition to its storied history with the Ryder Cup, ProQuip also was the official weatherwear for the victorious 2007 United States Solheim Cup Team, which prevailed under cold, wet and windy conditions in Halmstad, Sweden last September.
