PING expands putter line

12.15am 6th February 2004 - Corporate

PING chairman & CEO John Solheim has announced the introduction of the Craz-E, a G2i insert model designed with a geometric shape for increased inertia and easy alignment.
“It’s an exciting new addition to our putter line,” Solheim said. “Golfers who have tried it are extremely positive about its performance. It has a tremendous feel, sets up easily and, most importantly, inspires the confidence to make putts.”
The Craz-E design features strategic weight placement near the heel, toe and rear of the putter through its geometric shape and use of lightweight urethane inserts. The result is an extremely high moment of inertia and a centre of gravity positioned low and away from the face to ensure accuracy and consistency.
“Our engineering team enjoyed the challenge of applying our proven technology to a completely new shaped PING putter,” Solheim added. “The combination of the weight distribution and the use of the lightweight urethane inserts in the face and flange allowed us to eliminate unnecessary material while maintaining the solid feel golfers expect from their putters.
“We also focused the design around creating an optically pleasing putter. The crescent-shapes and an extra-long sightline contrast with the blue urethane inserts to provide an alignment aid. It sets up square and makes alignment almost effortless.”
A blue urethane insert, which extends across most of the face, and a blue grip provide the same soft, responsive feel golfers embraced with the introduction of the G2i putters in August 2003.
The E-shaped flange inspired the putter’s name, according to vice-president of engineering John K. Solheim, who oversaw development of the putter. “We had some fun with the name,” he said. “It’s kind of crazy looking for us but it performs to our high standards. We‘re confident the putter’s performance and unique look will result in a lot of golfers making a lot of putts.”
The suggested retail price e Craz-E is £125. The putter is face balanced and features a double-bend shaft. Standard length is 34″. Worldwide shipments begin on 16th February.
The company also announced the addition of the Piper H to the G2i putter series. The mallet-shaped head features a heel-shafted, blade style hosel. All G2i putters feature a blue insert and blue grip. Suggested retail is £100. Worldwide shipments begin 15th March.
