10.17am 12th August 2010 - Corporate

Troon Golf has been selected to manage the 45-hole Lumine Golf Club www.lumine.com within the exclusive Mediterranea Beach & Golf Community, near Portaventura in Tarragona, Spain.

The luxurious community situated on 500 hectares adjacent to the sea boasts some stunning views of the Mediterranean. Home to three courses, two of which are designed by golfing legend, Greg Norman and the other by Green project, Mediterranea Beach & Golf Community is regarded as one of the most exciting and rapidly growing golf and leisure destinations anywhere in Europe.

Owned by one of Europe’s most renowned financial establishments, Criteria CaixaCorp, Mediterranea Beach & Golf Community is beautifully designed to face the Balearic Sea and is ideally located in the heart of the Mediterranean and only an hour’s drive from the cosmopolitan city of Barcelona.

Home to glorious weather all year-round, Mediterranea will see Troon Golf manage its three golf courses and tranquil beach club, which together create the perfect blend of leisure and tradition.

“With the collaboration of Troon Golf, we are convinced that Lumine Golf Club will soon be recognised amongst the finest golf resorts in the region. Troon Golf’s expertise in managing the golf courses, combined with our team will enable us to further develop our project and services and offer a high-end product to our customers”, explained Luis Rullan, President and Managing Director of Mediterranea Beach & Golf Community.

The Par 71 North course of 6,317 metres and nine-hole Centre course of 2,609 metres, which opened in June 2008 were designed by two-time major winner Greg Norman, and have played host to Sergio Garcia’s Pro-Am tournament in two of the past three years, further testament to the developments rapid maturity and expansion.

The North course is arguably the most technically challenging of Norman’s designs at Mediterranea, which requires a certain level of precision and strategy, while the Centre course has integrated archeological remains, historical towers and sea views that make it unique to the Spanish region. Designed by Green Project the Par 72, 6,378 meter South course was founded on environmentally sustainable concepts and includes an irrigation system that utilizes recycled water.

“We are excited to be working with the team at Mediterranea Beach & Golf Community. The golf course design has been first class and when you add the Beach Club, restaurant and the nearby PortAventura amusement park  the resort experience becomes very appealing to both golfers and non-golfers alike,” commented Bruce Glasco, Managing Director, Troon Golf Europe, Middle East and Africa. “The facilities master plan is hugely impressive and we look forward to bringing our expertise to the project to enhance the quality and services on offer.”
