GolfCross Open Day at Hoburne Bashley

12.05am 9th July 2007 - Corporate

New Forest holiday park, Hoburne Bashley, is the first public golf course in southern England to install the new game of GolfCross® to its 9 hole par 3 course on the park. GolfCross has currently seven locations around the UK with many more sites under discussion.

To celebrate the launch Hoburne Bashley is inviting local people to come and discover the game on Saturday 14th July. Throughout the day a ‘Goal in One‘ competition will be running, offering prizes including a family holiday as well as official GolfCross merchandise.

Hoburne Bashley’s GolfCross Open Day event will include free family membership for the day enabling people to come and enjoy all the facilities Hoburne Bashley has to offer such as the heated outdoor pools, the indoor leisure pool with flume, sauna and steam room, tennis and the evening entertainment.

GolfCross® was conceived in New Zealand. It is golf with goals instead of holes and is played with an oval GolfCross ball instead of a round one. Many of the same rules as golf apply and the same clubs are used, except the putter which becomes redundant with this game.

Hoburne Bashley has been one of the first UK golf courses to embrace and install the new game joining such courses as Whittlebury Park in Northamptonshire and PennyHill Park in Surrey.

Bob Saunders, general manager of Hoburne Bashley, comments, “Hoburne Bashley is delighted to be the first course in the south to offer this unique and exciting game that we know will appeal to golfers and non golfers of all ages. The game is about skill, fun and informality and it can be played with minimal outlay. You don‘t even need to own a pair of golf shoes ….trainers are OK!”

Paul Martin, managing director of GolfCross UK, expects to have 25 courses up and running by the end of 2008 and says, “GolfCross, although golf related, is a totally new sport in its own right. It is fantastic fun for everyone who has never considered playing or is struggling with the traditional golf game.

“It is also the first ‘real alternative‘ golf style game that is truly family orientated… and golfers who play love it too! Using an oval golf ball that defies belief and is actually more controllable than a round one, this is a game will leave you enthralled. Prepare yourself for something quite different and, at first, almost unbelievable.”
