Thanks to the support of Murray Winton and Martin Lambert, co-owners of golf trade in specialists GolfClubs4Cash, pro shops and retailers across the country have found a way to keep their business moving forward in 2020 despite the challenging times caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Winton, co-founder and director of GolfClubs4Cash, explained the reason for this boom. He said: “When golf was closed, pros with bricks-and-mortar shops across the UK were faced with uncertainty and unsold inventory. Our trade-in events give our PGA Pro customers a real boost to their business because the funds for any trade-ins are paid immediately to the pro to credit the customer’s account.”
The Edinburgh-based business, which was set up in 2011, has been fortunate enough to keep its 50-plus staff members busy over the whole of 2020, with demand for its pre-owned clubs and equipment at an all-time high.
Lambert added: “With more people taking up golf, we have had an influx of orders for our pre-owned sets. We’ve also been quite aware of the fact that people have had time to clear their lofts and garages of unwanted old clubs. We will accept any products, as long as they are still fit for purpose, which means we have seen some weird and wonderful clubs here in the past few months!”
The company, whose turnover has grown year on year, winning the Business High Growth award, has a robust expansion plan in place for 2021 supported with significant investment.
“We already support many clubs in the UK and Ireland and want to reach out to other businesses who will benefit from our trade-in events,” added Lambert. “In a recent trip to London, we ran five days of events which were a huge success across 14 locations. The members see this as an added-value service, and nothing can take away from the pro’s satisfaction when they get money from us before we leave.”
With the trade-in event schedule filling up fast for 2021, the team is looking to welcome any new businesses who wish to host a day.
