The European Tour’s ‘Every Birdie Counts’ campaign, which has raised crucial funds for UNICEF to support its aim to deliver three billion vaccines globally as part of the COVAX Facility, will this week provide a major donation boost when every birdie made at the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai results in a €75 donation.
The ‘Every Birdie Counts’ initiative, which is an integral part of the Tour’s overarching CSR Programme ‘Golf for Good’, was announced earlier this year with a pledge to raise a minimum €1 for UNICEF for every single birdie made during the 2021 Race to Dubai season, with €10 donated for every eagle and €1,000 for every albatross.
November 20 will mark World Children’s Day (WCD), a major moment within UNICEF’s milestone 75th anniversary year – WCD is UNICEF’s flagship and most recognisable annual public campaign.
To mark UNICEF’s 75th anniversary year and World Children’s Day, the European Tour will provide a significant ‘Birdie Boost’ at its season finale in Dubai – the final Rolex Series event of the 2021 Race to Dubai – pledging €75 for every birdie made at Jumeirah Golf Estates this week.
DP World is also a global partner to UNICEF where they support the global distribution of COVAX medical supplies in low- and lower-middle-income countries, ensuring equitable, affordable, and sustainable access to COVID-19 vaccines for all. This partnership aims to support UNICEF’s lead role in procuring and supplying COVID-19 vaccines and auxiliary vaccination supplies on behalf of the COVAX Facility, by using DP World’s logistics and warehousing services around the world.
Keith Pelley, Chief Executive of the European Tour, said: “As a global business, it is vital that we play our part in supporting worthy causes and communities around the world through our Golf for Good initiative. UNICEF has for 75 years been a global leader in humanitarian missions and no more so than during the pandemic, so we are honoured to support their efforts, and commemorate their 75th year, by donating €75 for every birdie made at our season-ending DP World Tour Championship.
“The funds raised through our Every Birdie Counts campaign in 2021, including at this week’s DP World Tour Championship, will support UNICEF with the logistics and delivery of COVID-19 vaccines in low-income countries, and that is something of which we are immensely proud.”
Steven Waugh, Interim Executive Director of The UK Committee for UNICEF said, “COVID-19 is the biggest global crisis since the World War Two. Today, the world is engulfed in crisis, with the most marginalised children worst affected. For 75 years, UNICEF has been an unstoppable force for change in children’s lives. This includes short-term emergency relief as well as long-term development programmes. We never stop working to save children’s lives, protect their rights and secure their futures. History is again calling upon us to help the world, its children and the systems upon which they rely to re-emerge from the COVID-19 crisis. That’s why we are thrilled that the European Tour is boosting their incredible support to our emergency response efforts, helping us continue to deliver our life-saving work for children around world at this pivotal moment and beyond.”
