England Golf appoints two new board members

10.13am 11th September 2020 - Corporate

England Golf’s voting members have elected Moira Page and Sue Milner to the board at the national governing body’s first-ever online AGM.

Page and Milner each bring a wealth of top-level career experience to their new roles as well as a deep understanding and passion for the game of golf.
They take over from Les Wilson and Doug Poole as non-executive directors and – for the first time – ensure an equal split of male and female members on the 12-strong board.

Chief executive Jeremy Tomlinson commented: “On behalf of England Golf I have great pleasure in welcoming Moira and Sue to the board. They were both excellent candidates and bring with them different attributes from their respective careers and experiences in golf which I know will be invaluable as we move forward as a governing body.

“It was entirely fitting that an historic online AGM resulted in a vote which elevated Moira and Sue to the board and ensured for the first time that there is now equal representation of male and female directors. This year has witnessed challenges the likes of which we have never seen before in the modern era, but the spirit in the sport has never been stronger.

“The board remain committed to effecting positive change and driving the game to new levels as we work with our stakeholders and plan together for golf’s bright future.”

Page, from Leicestershire and Rutland, is a qualified chartered management accountant with a specialist knowledge of financial management and expertise in corporate governance and strategies. A scratch golfer, she also spent two years as an assistant professional at Glen Gorse Golf Club before moving into her current profession. She remains a member at Glen Gorse and, as well as representing her county as a player, has also served two terms as ladies’ county captain and one spell as county president.

Milner, from Yorkshire, has retired from a career in office management where she worked for Rowntree/Nestle in York and latterly with a private high-tech firm specialising in international trade. A keen golfer and long-standing committee member at York Golf Club, she is a strong advocate for women’s, girls’ and junior golf. She also currently serves on the England Golf Championship Committee and County Golf Advisory Board.

The 2020 AGM – originally scheduled for April – was staged online for the first time due to the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 outbreak. At the meeting, chairman Nic Coward was re-elected for a further term and Carol Alford and Jill Dean were re-elected to the board. Graham Yates from Somerset takes over the role as England Golf President from Gloucestershire’s Jenny Clink, with Les Wilson from Lancashire accepting the nomination as President-elect.
