Cleveland Golf launches online wedge fitting programme…

The task of selecting a wedge system that works specifically for individual golfers has just been made a whole lot easier following the launch of a new online wedge fitting system by Cleveland Golf.

As a leader in wedge technology, Cleveland has developed a wedge fitting system that effectively fits players into the best wedges possible for their game. In its web-based format at www.clevelandgolf.com, the programme uses logic and wedge-specific algorithms to match a player’s ability and personal preferences with the most appropriate wedge models, bounce, lofts and finish to provide every golfer with the perfect set of wedges.

Once on the website, golfers are required to answer a series of straightforward questions on current wedge use, set make-up and average yardages. Using this information the fitting system will not only pick club’s from Cleveland extensive wedge range to suit a player’s skill level, but also suggests alternative loft, bounce and lie configurations to match course conditions and provide a perfectly-matched set to create uniform yardage gaps, banishing the distance ‘blind spots’ that are a feature of many amateur’s short game arsenal.

Scott Carlyle, Cleveland Golf‘s head of product development for wedges, believes that all players can benefit from having their scoring clubs built to their specifications, just as they would a driver or a putter. He says, “While a growing number of golfers have probably been custom-fit for a driver or a set of irons, few will have had the opportunity to have their wedges tailor-made for personal use. The online wedge fitting system, in conjunction with working with your local Cleveland Golf PGA Pro stockist, will help you find your perfectly matched set.”

Scott, who worked with players like Vijay Singh and David Howell in the creation of the latest range of Cleveland CG12 and CG14 wedges, adds, “Most pros carry at least three or four specialist wedges. Having so many lofts gives them a vast number of shot options around the green. And that‘s even more important for amateurs, who tend to miss greens more often than pros. Understanding how the right combination of clubhead design, loft and bounce on the wedges in your bag can dramatically lower your scores.”
