Celebrity relaunch at Sandown Park

7.00am 13th June 2006 - Corporate

Following a £400,000 refurbishment programme, Sandown Park Golf Centre was re-launched in style on 4th June 2006 with a fun-packed open day for all the family. The centre was officially opened by golfing legend, John Jacobs OBE, twice Ryder Cup captain and the pioneer of accessible golf. Scott Cranfield, founder of the Cranfield Golf Academy, leading tour coach and master of a holistic approach to learning golf welcomed John Jacobs to Sandown Park and they entertained the audience with tales of how golf coaching has developed over the years.
Visitors enjoyed the opportunity to have a free golf session with Scott Cranfield and John Jacobs, free golf lessons with Cranfield Golf Academy coaches and the opportunity to see Max Martin, the world’s No 1 Eight Year Old in action on the Par 3 Course.
Sandown Park Golf Centre has been fully refurbished and the new floodlit driving range certainly met with approval.  “Its not getting golf, its keeping golf that’s the secret,” John Jacobs.  “We’ve all had the good shots but it’s hanging on to them that is the secret, and that comes with practice!”
Sandown Park Golf Centre boasts three 9 hole courses and two putting greens. All the courses are fully marshalled to ensure a safe and pleasant game for all. Cranfield Golf Academy offers lessons to everyone from juniors through to European Tour Professionals. Direct Golf UK run the golf shop at the Centre where they host full demo, custom fit & workshop facilities.
John Jacobs made a huge contribution to changing the way golf is played in the UK. Through his work with Althlon Golf, John was the first to introduce golf ranges and golf centres to the UK in the ‘sixties. He was director general of the PGA tournament Players Division (now the PGA European tour) and Ryder Cup captain in 1979 and 1981 for the first European team.
Scott Cranfield is widely regarded as one of the world’s most knowledgeable golfers, coaching top leading tour players including Barry Lane, Robert-Jan Derksen and Zane Scotland. He is also the founder of the Cranfield Golf Academy, which allows members of the public to tap into his unique holistic style of coaching.
