Located just 9 miles from central London, Richmond Golf Club are celebrating 125 years of golf this year at their parkland course in Petersham, Surrey. The 105 acre course features 18 tree-lined holes adding additional maintenance challenges into the regime of Course Manager Les Howkins. With autumn approaching, Les has recently invested in a new Trilo blower from Vanmac to help with the leaf clearance around the course.
The Trilo BL960 blower is the latest purchase for Les and his team of 10, having the need for a more powerful machine than their previous blower.
“We’re familiar with the Trilo product, having had a large vacuum unit for years here at Richmond. We know the build quality and the service you get so when we decided to make the new investment, though we looked at alternatives we settled on Trilo” explains Les. The BL960 is one of the most powerful on the market, at home on the golf course as it is in a large open space.
The reverse exhaust spout can be altered 180o altering the direction of airflow meaning areas can be cleared to both the left and the right. “This was a big plus point for us, the manoeuvrability of the blower is great and we can get in and out of areas, blowing leaves in the required direction without the need to turn around.”
In the last month, the BL960 has been out of the course everyday as the leaves have started to drop. “We’ve been keeping the in-play areas such as greens, tees and fairways clear and moving forward we’ll be able to get under the trees with this machine and blow the leaves into an open area where we can then come along with our Trilo vacuum and take them away.”
As the largest blower in the Trilo range, the BL960 requires a 50hp tractor, has a capacity of 385m3/min and delivers an airspeed of 75m/s. Other alternatives include the BL400 designed to cope with a large capacity yet generate a low level of noise and the popular B7 compact blower that comes complete with an anti-scalping roller making it effective on uneven surfaces.
