The success of The European Tour’s season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, which is being staged for the seventh time from Thursday 19 to Sunday 22 November at Jumeirah Golf Estates, is down to a number of factors.
Top class players, diligent staff, excellent sponsors and a wonderful venue of course play a huge role in making it one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the season. But the DP World Tour Championship also receives strong support from the Government of Dubai which aids greatly the smooth running of the US$8 million event.
Staged under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Sports Council, the DP World Tour Championship is the final event in a season-long Race to Dubai campaign that sees players compete in 48 tournaments in 27 destinations across five continents.
A Government of Dubai committee has been overseeing arrangements for vital services and logistics at the tournament such as policing and security, traffic control, health and safety, medical support, access and emergency evacuation procedures.
Organisations such as the Dubai Police, CID Police, RTA, Civil Defence, Dubai Traffic Police, Ambulance service, First Aid, Trakhees and all Government of Dubai authorities are essential in making sure the DP World Tour Championship is as safe as it is enjoyable.
Nick Tarratt, Director, European Tour, Dubai Office said: “The support of all the Government of Dubai services is vital for the smooth running of the tournament. The tournament is sanctioned by the Dubai Sports Council and Emirates Golf Federation and promoted through Dubai Tourism. This is the seventh DP World Tour Championship and we thank all Government of Dubai bodies for their dedication and support to organise this international golf tournament.”
The top 60 players in The Race to Dubai rankings will compete for the prize fund of US$8 million while there is also a ‘Bonus Pool’ of US$5 million and an additional ‘Bonus Pool’ of US$1.on offer to be split between the top 15 players in the rankings following the conclusion of the tournament.
Henrik Stenson successfully defended his DP World Tour Championship title last year although it was Rory McIlroy who secured The Race to Dubai thanks largely to his two Major wins.
Staging the DP World Tour Championship is a year-long project and a group effort between The European Tour, title sponsor DP World, Jumeirah Golf Estates, event co-sponsors and the Dubai Government being the key to its success.
