New STRI training course

9.00am 19th February 2002 - Management Topics

STRI are organising a one-day version of “Running Golf Courses in the 21st Century” – their popular two-day training course held every January during the BTME week in Harrogate.

There have been numerous requests for a regional version and the first of these will be held at Temple Golf Club, near Maidenhead on 18th April. The programme will help all those who manage and administer golf courses, including secretaries and chairman of green, to maximise the agronomic and financial potential of their golf course.

The day will cover a range of issues including:

Rootzones, sands and soils

Golf course construction

Ecological approach to golf course management

Choosing grasses

Avoiding and controlling pests and diseases

Speakers from STRI will be joined by Martin Gunn, course manager at Temple, who will present the ecology session. Well-known for its sympathetic ecological approach to golf course management, Temple’s progress is documented in “confessions of a Chairman of Green” released last September. Martin’s session will include a walk on the golf course to illustrate the work carried out at Temple.

Costs for the day including refreshments and lunch at the clubhouse are £85 plus VAT per person.
